Maersk has raised its full-year profit forecast amid the continuing impact of soaring freight rates caused by the Red Sea crisis.

Maersk raised its full-year forecast for 2024 and now expects EBITDA of $7 billion to $9 billion and EBIT of $1 billion to $3 billion this year. (Previously, it was $4 to $6 billion and - $2 to $0 billion, respectively). Free cash flow of at least $1 billion (previously at least - $2 billion).

Maersk CEO Vincent Clerc said: "Over the past month, the container shipping market has entered a new phase, driven by the disruption of the ongoing crisis in the Red Sea and the knock-on effects on the global supply chain. "While container traffic demand remains strong, supply has been negatively impacted by voyage delays, longer voyages, equipment shortages and delays, resulting in increased congestion at several major ports in Asia and the Middle East."

At the same time, Maersk announced significant delays due to severe congestion at major ports in the Mediterranean and Asia. This congestion resulted in significantly longer waiting times at various ports, severely impacting Maersk's ability to maintain normal shipping schedules.

In response to the current port congestion, Maersk plans to launch two empty flights in the next few weeks.
